Alex Valm received $89,700 from Colgate Palmolive Company to support his project “CLASI-FISH imaging of in vitro oral biofilms.” Valm’s team will examine the impact of at least one oral care ingredient or formula on both healthy and diseased saliva biofilms, focusing on biofilms and organisms that cause oral disease.
Paul Morgan and Eric Hu published a study in Learning and Individual Differences examining racial and ethnic differences in the risks for mathematics and science difficulties and factors that explained these risks. The differences emerged early and were strongly explained by family socioeconomic status and early academic and executive functioning.
Richard F. Hamm's new book, Confronting Racism: Arthur Garfield Hays and the Fight for Equality, 1925-1954, has been published by SUNY Press. The book examines how Hays, a Jewish corporate lawyer, became an unlikely civil rights advocate. Grounded in the Bill of Rights, his legal battles revealed both the promise and limits of civil liberties law in confronting segregation.
